Avoiding Confusion When Beginning Interior Design- By: Missy M Peterson

Description : Are you getting sick and tired of those four walls? Do you think that you need a change? When was the last time you really remodeled and would a bit of a nip and tuck of a facelift on your house do you some good?

While a fresh coat of paint or some new carpeting might do the trick, do you worry that you'll get done with that project and wish that you had just done a complete home decor make over on your house or at least a few rooms? We all need a little change every once in a while and if we all didn't redo our home decor every few years we'd still be stuck with green or yellow refrigerators and orange shag wall to wall carpeting in most of the homes in the world right now.

Hem lines change, shoe styles change, men's lapels change and home interior styles change. While many of these changes happen rather quickly and often on a seasonal basis, home decorating styles follow some basic styles but colors, fabrics and ideas are constantly changing and new things are constantly being introduced into our society in the form of different styling. But where do you start? How can you get some ideas for your home and what's new when it comes to home decorating?

The internet should be your first resource when you start to think about redecorating your house. Do a search for interior designers in your local area and you are bound to find some talented designers with websites full of fresh, new ideas. You can also do a search for home and garden shows. Most areas of the country have these in the spring and also around the holiday season but you might find home and garden shows any time of the years if you're looking for them.

Your first order of business should be to find a basic style that fits you and your home. It really doesn't matter if one particular style is popular at the moment. What is important is that you feel at easy and find pleasure in being surrounded with this style. If you don't particularly like modern furniture or if you don't think that it will look right in your house then go with another style. If you're more country then check out different ideas and websites that deal with country styles of interior design and furniture. It's your house and home and you are the only one that has to live there.

Deciding upon a style has to be the toughest part of the entire process when redecorating. It can be easy to like different styles and some styles to complement each other nicely but finding one style should be your goal. Once you are decided then this is where things get really interesting. It will be time for you to start thinking about colors, lighting, styles of furniture and room layout. You will find that once you've decided on a style that things really start rolling and everything fits together like a giant puzzle.

One fun way of organizing everything when you're planning out your remodeling projects is to save pictures of what you like and why you like it. If you see a particular light that you like or a rug that you think would look good in your living room then save it. This can be helpful later if you're going to meet with an interior designer for some help. These ideas and photos are the pieces or thoughts that will become your design. Together they become an interior design that is as unique as you and your home are.

It can be difficult to stay focused and I've seen people get off track in the middle of an interior design project after seeing a house that they really loved and wanted to duplicate the design of. While this is fine, make sure that this is truly the right choice for you, your home and your lifestyle. Get that vision in your head of what you want your house to look like and stay focused on that picture in your mind while you carry that vision and style throughout your house.
